With the playoffs set to start Saturday, the New York Knicks have elected to add some extra perimeter fire power Tuesday with the re-signing of swingman Quentin Richardson to the lineup, according to a New York Daily News report.
"I figured when we get some of our bigs back ... it gives us one more perimeter guy that can defend a little bit, that can make shots and space the floor like we play," Mike Woodson said Tuesday during his weekly ESPN Radio spot. "I just think it adds to what we're trying to do.
"We do have a lot of perimeter guys, but my thing has always been whoever plays, you've got to make the most out of your minutes. And if we get somebody in the game that's struggling a little bit, then maybe I can turn to Quentin or turn to everybody else based on all the guys we've got to get it done. That's the reason for bringing him to our ballclub."
Richardson, 33, played with the Knicks from 2005-09. He's late signing to the team won't interfere with him making an appearance during the playoffs this season.
Before missing at least a year's worth of NBA basketball he was averaging 4.5 points per game in 48 appearances with the Orlando Magic in the 2011-12 season.
