The Boston Bruins will be playing for everyone in the city on Wednesday night, as their game against the Buffalo Sabres will be the first professional game in the city since the attack on the Boston Marathon on Monday.
According to the Associated Press, security will be very tight for the game following the attacks on the marathon and there were extra measures in place, including car checks, searches, under car mirrors as well as metal detectors for sports writers and other personnel in the arena area. Bruins forward Jay Pandolfo said the moves bring back memories of 9/11, which he remembers since he was with the New Jersey Devils at the time.
The report says that officials had placed both uniformed and plain clothed officers at various areas and there also were police cars and other vehicles around the area. The Bruins originally were slated to play the Senators on Monday, but that game was postponed until near the end of the season when the two bombs went off at the marathon.
The Bruins will be cheered on by the entire city if they win or lose and the etam will be wearing a special decal to honor the victims, which is a ribbon in blue and yellow that reads: "Boston Strong".
''You're trying to live your life in peace, and there's people trying to disrupt that,'' Bruins coach Claude Julien said. ''The people trying to live their life in peace are going to stick together.''
