Green Bay Packers fans do not normally cheer when a player drops a pass, but for Jermichael Finley, they may be able to make an exception. The tight end has pledged to donate money to a Boston relief fund based on his on-the-field performance. In wake of the Boston Marathon bombings, for each dropped pass by Finley, he has vowed to donate $500 to One Fund Boston. He will also give $500 for each touchdown pass he catches.
This pledge comes just after New England Patriots wide receiver Danny Amendola vowed to donate $100 for each catch he makes and $200 for every dropped pass this season. Last season, Finley dropped seven passes that were thrown to him. He also scored two touchdowns, which in total would equal $4,500
Amendola has averaged 64 catches a season while in the NFL. With Tom Brady at quarterback, Wes Welker caught over 100 passes a season. If Amendola can equal that production, he could be donating upwards of $10,000. While no football fan likes to see a dropped pass, these are at least ones everyone can feel good about.
Earlier in the offseason, it was expected that Finley might not be returning to the Green Bay Packers. He was hesitant on taking a pay cut with the team, however he and the team were able to come to terms and the Packers agreed to pay him a $3 million bonus that was due as part of his $8.25 million total salary for 2013. In Finley's three seasons with the team, he has recorded 137 receptions for 1,735 yards and 11 touchdowns.
