It's an A.L. East battle as the Tampa Bay Rays host the New York Yankees for their three-game series that sets off Monday night. If you can't watch the game, check out the live stream available brought to you by the MLB.TV. First, let's look at the matchups and possible lineups.
It will be lefty against lefty as C.C. Sabathia takes on Matt Moore. It will be veteran against new blood as Sabathia, one of the more consistent hurlers in the game faces an up and coming pitcher in Moore.
Who would you rather have as your starter?
Sabathia comes into the game with a 3-1 record and a 2.57 ERA. The Yankees saved him from suffering his second loss of the year as they rallied back to defeat the Arizona Diamondbacks late in that game. Sabathia pitched eight innings of three-run baseball with six strikeouts and a walk.
One word to describe Moore? Unhittable. He was touched up for two runs against the Baltimore Orioles in his last start, but he went 6.2 innings allowing five hits, three walks and striking out seven. His ERA is 1.00.
Can Moore shutdown a Yankee lineup that has been surging so far in 2013? I'm pretty sure there are many teams that would love to struggle the way the Yankees were expected to. They have the third highest batting average (.273), third in home runs (27) and seventh in runs scored (88). Though they're injured, the Yankees are still punishing pitchers and they won their fourth straight series over the weekend after beating the Toronto Blue Jays.
The Rays are having a very disappointing 2013 campaign. They are currently the fourth team in the A.L. East with an 8-10 record. As for the Yankees, they can smell first place as they trail the Red Sox just 1.5 games.
