Ryan Nassib has a virtually quiet college career. The former Syracuse starting quarterback was not considered a marquee player during his days in the NCAA, but since announcing he was entering the NFL draft, his name has been the talk of many professional teams. Several mock drafts have Nassib being taken in the top-10 as the second quarterback selected overall. While many experts believe he is one of the best all-around options, one former NFL quarterback is not singing the same tune. Kurt Warner does not believe the Nassib should be taken by any team in the first round.
Warner went on NFL AM to discuss the upcoming draft and several of the quarterbacks in this year's draft class. Warner said he has spent time watching game film of Nassib and has not been impressed enough to justify Nassib as a first-round pick.
"Watching film of this guy-not overly impressive on film. If you're drafting a quarterback in the first round, you're drafting a franchise quarterback, a guy who you believe can win Super Bowls for you. Otherwise, why draft a guy that high? You need a guy that can do everything, and I didn't see on film this guy having the ability to do everything. He didn't wow me when I saw him on film," Warner said.
The Buffalo Bills have been the team mainly associated with drafting Nassib. They are likely to take him No. 8 overall. While they did sign Kevin Kolb in the offseason, he is only a short-term answer. The Bills need someone they can eventually build the franchise around. While Geno Smith is considered the top quarterback in the draft, Nassib or Matt Barkley might be the next best option for the Bills.
Nassib is considered the front runner due to his former coach now being the head coach for the Bills. Doug Marrone is very familiar with Nassib since having coached him at Syracuse. He might not be a top 10 pick otherwise. Marrone might know something about Nassib that most NFL scouts do not. Warner certainly does not see anything special, claiming Nassib does not have the "wow factor" of a first-round pick. If the Bills pass up on Nassib in the first round, most other teams will as well. They could easily grab him in the second round.
