Denver Broncos Draft Rumors: Trade Up With New York Jets Option As Team Targets Eddie Lacy, Bjoern Werner and DJ Hayden With Picks

Apr 23, 2013 12:59 PM EDT

The Denver Broncos had one of the best seasons of any NFL team last year and the franchise is hoping to duplicate that again in 2013 with a successful draft and one way to do that could be in a draft day trade with the New York Jets.

According to ESPN.com, the team is looking hard at players Eddie Lacy, Bjoern Werner as well as Houston cornerback D.J. Hayden, pass rusher Tank Carradine, Notre Dame linebacker Manti Te'o and Washington cornerback Desmond Trufant in the draft and one way to ensure they get one of those guys is through a trade. The Jets have two first round picks after their trade of cornerback Darrelle Revis and now have the chance to add more picks if they want to deal one of those selections.

The Broncos should be in good position even without a trade, as one of those players is likely to be available at the end of the round and with six picks they should be able to add talent. The team has one pick in every round but the sixth and after adding Wes Welker in the offseason the team will not need to go after a wideout. Running back Eddie Lacy could be a great selection, as the team needs help in the running game, but players like Desmond Trufant and Werner should remain available late in the first round.

Most experts are predicting that the team selects DE Damontre Moore from Texas A&M as well as Trufant and Sylvester Williams from North Carolina. The team was one of the most balanced in the NFL last year and ranked third in both passing and rushing yards allowed per game, but after losing Elvis Dumervil to the Ravens, John Fox would like to add more depth on the line and Werner and Williams could be the answer for that.

Hayden has quickly been moving up draft boards and some experts say he is even better and more pro ready than Dee Milliner, who is expected to be a top 10 pick. If Hayden is available at 28 the Broncos should try to get him, as Champ Bailey is getting older and the team needs more depth and talent on the outside.
