The Miami Dolphins were an active team in free agency after signing Mike Wallace, Philip Wheeler and Dannell Ellerbe, but the team has a few positions to address ahead of the draft, including at left tackle and cornerback and that could be their main focus on Thursday.
According to ESPN.com, the Dolphins could go after a defensive back in the first round after losing Sean Smith to the Chiefs in free agency and one name that could be available is Alabama cornerback Dee Milliner. The defensive back was considered a top five pick, but after reports of having five shoulder surgeries during his college career has scared some teams off of him. The Browns have been linked to him but are considering trading down, leaving the Dolphins as a team that could snag him.
The Dolphins brought in Brent Grimes as a free agent, but since he is coming off of serious surgery they may want another player in the fold to go along with Richard Marshall and Dimitri Patterson. Milliner could join the team and start right away and would give the Dolphins a young star at corner again after they traded away Vontae Davis and the team could use some depth as their defense ranked 27th in the league against the pass.
The Browns have Joe Haden but have been linked to Milliner, but reports also say that they may trade down out of the top 10. The Dolphins moves are predicated on the trade of Chiefs left tackle Branden Albert, as if that trade doesn't happen they may decide to move up to select Lane Johnson instead and ditch the Milliner idea. The team lost Jake Long in free agency and desperately needs a left tackle to give the running and passing game some time to work.
