Borussia Dortmund vs Real Madrid: Ramos, Alonso Confident of Improbable Turnaround in Champions League Semifinal Second Leg

Sergio Ramos and Xabi Alonso insisted Real Madrid still had a chance to go through to the Champions League final, despite a 4-1 defeat in the semifinal first leg at Borussia Dortmund.

Real were left shell-shocked after a stupendous performance from Dortmund and Robert Lewandowski left them reeling and on the brink of an exit from the Champions League.

Real did score an away goal courtesy Cristiano Ronaldo, however, and Ramos believes his side are capable of pulling off an improbable comeback in the second leg at the Bernabeu.

"It is clear that the comeback depends on us," Ramos, who made his 350th appearance for Real Madrid Wednesday, told the club's official website. "There are 90 minutes at home and we will go for it from the first minute.

"There is a lot of love for this competition and we really want to be in the final. Despite the result we have to believe that we can complete the comeback at home. It is tough but we have to think that 90 minutes in the Bernabeu is a very long time and it is possible.

"It is hard work to get to a semifinal to let it slip because of a bad result. We're playing for a place in the Champions League final and we all have to pick ourselves up.

"We need to think about the second leg. When you lose you have to think about things and review the mistakes to improve on them. All of the players have to be convinced that we can do it."

Midfielder Xabi Alonso, who gave away a needless penalty in the second half which made it four for Robert Lewandowski and Dortmund, believes the home crowd will play a major role in lifting the team up, but admitted it was up to them to show a comeback was possible on the pitch.

"We can do it in the second match at home, even though we are not happy with this match right now," he said.

"The fans' support will be crucial in the second leg, but we have to be the ones to make the first move so that they can get behind us. We have six days to wait and we can turn this result around."

Ramos, who was forced to play at right-back due to Alvaro Arbeloa's suspension, said Dortmund had shown they are a "great team", while admitting Real had lost to the better side.

"Borussia played well and have shown they are a great team. They were superior. We believe that we can win at home even though they are a tough team.

"The team had the right attitude but lacked pace and aggression. They had more, they also had control of the game and were clinical in front of goal. We tried to be but could not manage it."
