The Philadelphia Eagles have one of the best draft pick spots in the entire league in the NFL draft on Thursday and that is one reason why the team has been considering trading out of the spot, but as the 8 pm start approaches, the team has thought more and more about selecting Geno Smith.
According to ESPN.com, the Eagles have been looking to draft Smith since he is such a good fit for the new offense that Chip Kelly wants to run, despite the fact that the roster already has Michael Vick and Dennis Dixon. Smith can move and is mobile, but he also is a pure passer and had over 40 touchdowns last season with seven interceptions and he started off with 25 touchdowns passes and zero picks at the start of the year. EJ Manuel can be a backup option, but Kelly likes Smith.
The team has had calls about the number four pick and teams like the Miami Dolphins and San Diego Chargers are looking to trade up to possibly get Lane Johnson. The Eagles had a rough season at 4-12 that saw Andy Reid get fired and despite the fact that Vick was brought back on a contract doesn't mean that the Eagles won't go after someone else.
The Cleveland Browns have also shown interest in Smith despite having Brandon Weeden, and he worked out for new head coach Rob Chudzinski, who is bringing in a new offense that Smith should be able to handle. The team has been linked with Dee Milliner, but owner Jimmy Haslam wants to make a splash and give competition to Weeden and Smith could be that selection.
Mock drafts have Smith to the Browns and the team has also been linked to trading down, as both the Dolphins and Vikings have been looking to trade down.
