The NFL offseason has been driving fast towards the draft and on Thursday the scouting and hard work by teams will be put to the test as the first round starts in primetime at Radio City Music Hall with the Kansas City Chiefs making the number one overall selection.
The draft will be getting the Hollywood treatment as well, as the new Ivan Reitman film "Draft Day" will be filming scenes at the event this year with stars Denis Leary and Kevin Costner, who play the coach and general manager of the Cleveland Browns while navigating a hectic draft day. The Chiefs will make the first pick and most experts think it will be between left tackles Luke Joeckel and Eric Fisher, while the Jacksonville Jaguars at two may go after Sharrif Floyd or Geno Smith. The Oakland Raiders have a chance to select a prime player at three, including Dee Milliner or Jarvis Jones.
The draft this year has a number of interesting facts and figures and according to Sports Illustrated, there are more underclassmen in this class than any previously. Washington cornerback Desmond Trufant is looking to follow his brother Marcus into the professional ranks, while Matt Barkley will be entering the league after leaving the Pac-12 as the all-time passing and touchdown leader.
The Chiefs are making franchise history as they have never had the number one overall pick before and after going 2-14 the team is poised to rebound, as they hired Andy Reid to be the new head coach and traded for quarterback Alex Smith from the San Francisco 49ers. The team also signed Dwayne Bowe to a five-year extension as well as free agents Dunta Robinson, Sean Smith and Anthony Fasano while also placing the franchise tag on Branden Albert.
