Stephen Curry has been the best player for the Golden State Warriors all season, but an ankle injury could force him to miss Game 3 against the Denver Nuggets as the series returns to California tied 1-1, mirroring another big injury, as Russell Westbrook will be missing when the Thunder play the Rockets.
According to ESPN.com, Curry is a game time decision for the game after injuring his ankle in Game 2 and although he received treatment on Thursday, it might be too sore to play. The Thunder also suffered a big injury, as Westbrook tore a meniscus in his knee and is out indefinitely and needs surgery, knocking OKC with a huge loss as they try to go up 3-0 on Houston.
The Warriors tied the series with a 131-117 victory, but Curry hurt himself in the game when he tried to stop and change his direction, pushing his left ankle too hard. Curry had 19 points in the Game 1 loss and the scored 30 points with 13 assists in the victory in Game 2. Curry said that he will test the ankle on Friday to see what he can do and will also have more treatment on it leading into the game. This is the first time Curry has been to the playoffs and after setting the record for 3-pointers this season in the NBA he would like to help the Warriors take a lead in the series.
This past season Curry had one of his best of his young career, playing in all but four games while 22.9 points and 6.9 assists and being the primary leader of the Warriors. Jarrett Jack and Klay Thompson along with Harrison Barnes will need to step up if Curry is out for the game and Denver will look to take advantage of any mismatches with him off of the floor.
The Warriors were much better at home than on the road this past season, while the Nuggets were much worse on the road than at home, going 19-22 away from the Pepsi Center, where they lost only three games all season. David Lee is out for the playoffs and the Warriors can ill afford to lose another star as they try to win their first playoff series in years.
