Tim Tebow is going to be searching for a new NFL home after the New York Jets finally released him from their roster and after spending all season trying to act like they wanted him there, the team ditched him in the worst way possible, after the draft with most franchises already settling their quarterback situations.
According to NFL.com, Tebow has a number of options where he could possibly fit, but the biggest obstacle will be getting an actual team to sign him. One option that looked promising was the San Diego Chargers, but so far not much has materialized. G.M. Tom Telesco was asked about Tebow and said that the team likely wouldn't be bringing him in, but that could change as the offseason moves since the Chargers need a backup quarterback and Mike McCoy was his offensive coordinator when he was in Denver.
Tebow went 7-5 as a starter in 2011 with McCoy dictating the offense and he led the team to a number of come from behind wins and eventually helped the team to win the division and a playoff game against the Steelers in overtime. Tebow proved in Denver he could win in the NFL and despite the fact that he has a different style from most traditional quarterbacks doesn't mean that he won't be a success. The Chargers were not too consistent on offense last season and after taking DJ Fluker the team should be much better.
The addition of Tebow along with draft pick Manti Teo may be too much drama for the Chargers, but a laid back city with an established quarterback could be the perfect spot for Tebow. The Minnesota Vikings appear out of the Tebow race as well, since G.M. Rick Spielman was asked about possibly adding the quarterback and while he praised Tebow as an individual, he said the Vikings are set with their roster.
The team has Christian Ponder as the starting quarterback early, while Matt Cassel could possibly win the job from him if he plays well. The team made the playoffs last season and made a splash after trading Percy Harvin to the Seahawks, as they used three first round picks to take a number of talented players, including Sharrif Floyd from Florida to work the tranches.
Tebow worked out over the offseason with Chris Weinke and Vinny Testaverde and even though they cut him, the Jets were impressed with how Tebow came into workouts. They used him barely on the field last season, he played in just 77 offensive plays and he gained just 102 yards on the ground and 39 in the air after the team touted him as the second coming. The Jets were and are utterly dysfunctional and the entire Tebow saga showed it and it ended up as a big failure.
