Kansas City Chiefs Trade Rumors: Branden Albert Miami Dolphins Deal Coming As Team Trades Javier Arenas To Arizona Cardinals For Anthony Sherman?

May 01, 2013 02:36 PM EDT

The Kansas City Chiefs do not feel like a 2-14 team since new head coach Andy Reid took over and after drafting Eric Fisher with the number one overall pick, the team is not yet done retooling the offense, as they made a trade on Wednesday and it wasn't the one everyone was expecting.

According to NFL.com, the team traded away cornerback Javier Arenas to the Cardinals for fullback Anthony Sherman, reported Ian Rapoport. Arenas's agents said that the trade was what they were looking for, as the team made a number of cornerback moves in the offseason and it was likely that Arenas would not get as much playing time. The Chiefs signed Sean Smith and Dunta Robinson and the team also needed a fullback.

The Cardinals also needed another corner and now they have Patrick Peterson and new draft pick Tyrann Mathieu along with Arenas to work with. Reid will be using a west coast offense this season with new quarterback Alex Smith and the fullback will play a role. The team has a top five rushing attack last season with Jamaal Charles and Sherman can help with that on offense.

Sherman was a fifth round pick in 2011 and he has made 13 career catches. The Chiefs were looking for tall corners and since Arenas is undersized, the team felt they could move him and since he was moving into the final year of his deal, the team felt it made sense. Last season the Chiefs were one of the worst teams in the league on defense and after making some moves and draft picks, there is a good chance that they will improve next season.

The Chiefs trade that everyone was expecting was of Branden Albert to the Miami Dolphins, but so far there hasn't been much new movement. The Chiefs want a second round pick for him and Albert's contract demands may force the Dolphins to go after Eric Winston instead.
