Tim Tebow is hearing more people say "no" to him by the day. After the quarterback was released by the New York Jets, he has yet to find someone willing to give him a chance for the 2013 season. Multiple teams including the Seattle Seahawks, Oakland Raiders and Arizona Cardinals have all declined the services of Tebow. Well, now another team can be added to that list. The Miami Dolphins are debunking rumors that they could possibly be pursuing the quarterback.
Rumors began to swirl on Thursday when sports agent Drew Rosenhaus told a Miami radio station that he would not be surprised if the Dolphins took a chance on Tebow. The team's response to that is no. Sources for the Miami Herald report that the rumors are "totally untrue" and the team's quarterback situation is set.
It was mere speculation at best that Tebow could land in Miami. He spent his best football days in Florida and resides there in the offseason. He was spotted working out in South Florida earlier in the week, fueling the idea that maybe he would stay there with the team. But now it looks as if South Beach is just another team to cross off the list.
The Dolphins say they are set at quarterback. Currently, they have second-year quarterback Ryan Tannehill who is coming off a roller coaster rookie season. Last season, he threw for 3,294 yards and 12 touchdowns. They also have promising backup, Matt Moore.
Most teams are not buying into the notion that signing Tebow will boost ticket sales or merchandise. The Jacksonville Jaguars were once thought to be the favorites for the quarterback. They had struggled to sell game ticket for most of the season and some thought Tebow would be the answer. But, the Jaguars are not biting and neither are most teams.
The only team left that Tebow could possibly sign to is the New England Patriots. Current offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels was the coach at Denver when the team drafted Tebow in 2010. He was a big supporter of the quarterback and believed he could be a starter in the team. Head coach Bill Belichick was also pretty complimentary of the quarterback when he was being scouted out of college. Tebow would have no chance at becoming a distraction in a Belichick no-nonesense team. He could fit as the No. 3 quarterback and allow the Patriots to get creative on offense.
The likelihood of Tebow heading the New England is slim, just like his chances to sign with any team at this point. He has other offers with teams in the CFL and lingerie league, but so far nothing permanent in the NFL.
