One of the biggest offseason moves of 2013 was Ed Reed leaving the Baltimore Ravens and signing with the Houston Texans. The veteran safety had spent his entire career with Baltimore and officially decided to jump ship after helping win the team win a Super Bowl last season. Now with the Houston Texans, his new team will have to wait a little longer to get a look at their new defensive weapon. Reed underwent surgery last week to repair a labral tear in his hip.
Reed has been in the league for 11 years and has rarely missed any time for injuries. He has played in 16 regular-season games at least eight seasons of his career, proving to be relatively durable. He is also known for being able to play through injury. He started in every game last season despite having a torn labrum in his shoulder. The only major injury he has suffered was a hip injury that caused him to miss six games in 2010. It is assumed this is the same type of injury.
Reed is 34, so the injury is a small red flag for the safety. He signed a three-year deal with the team back in March. They are counting on him to help upgrade their secondary. Despite his age, his production has not seen any decrease. He finished the 2012 regular season with 58 tackles and four interceptions. He added 15 more tackles in the postseason.
While the Texans will have to wait for Reed, they are getting a look at their new potential backup quarterback in their upcoming rookie camp. While the team has not announced officially signing any undrafted free agents, it is reported that Collin Klein will be headed to Texas. The quarterback out of Kansas State finished third in the Heisman voting last season.
It was rumored that the Texans were considering moving Klein to tight end, but he will attend mini camp as a quarterback. Klein went 21-5 in two seasons at Kansas State, throwing for 29 touchdowns while rushing for 50. He sent an FBS record for 27 rushing touchdowns in 2011.
