The Anaheim Ducks are scoring in bunches throughout the playoffs and after shutting out the Detroit Red Wings on Saturday, the team is looking to take a 3-1 series advantage in Game 4 on Monday night at Joe Louis Arena.
The two teams have played each other hard, but the Ducks have been getting the most results, including in the 4-0 win on Saturday that saw goals from Ryan Getzlaf, Nick Bonino, Emerson Etem and Matt Beleskey, including three in the third period against Jimmy Howard. The Red Wings will be looking for a rebound performance at home on Monday and the team will need it to stay close to the Ducks, who could take a 3-1 advantage back home to win the series.
Detroit will have to deal with losing Justin Abdelkader to a suspension for his hit on Toni Lydman, as he will be out for the next two games, putting the Red Wings a player down in a must win situation. The 26-year-old scored 10 goals while playing in all 48 games this season and the Ducks will try to take advantage of his absence. The red Wings have been solid on the power play during the series, but in Game 3 they weren't zero for six on advantage chances and now has scored just twice while playing at even strength for the series.
Both teams may be down a man, as the 35-year-old defenseman Lydman may be out after dealing with the hit. Sucks star Ryan Getzlaf is leading the team in scoring and he will need to attack again on Monday night along with Teemu Selanne to give Anaheim the advantage on the road. The Ducks were one of the strongest teams in the NHL this season while going 30-12-6 and they got off to almost as good of a start at the Blackhawks did.
The Red Wings struggled to finish seventh in the West after almost missing the playoffs and ranked 19th in scoring this season while they were fifth in goals against with Howard in net. The team ranked just 15th and 12th in power play and penalty kill percentage and will need to improve in both to win on Monday.
