The Toronto Maple Leafs welcomed playoff hockey back to the Air Canada Centre on Monday against the Boston Bruins after nearly a decade, but any goodwill for the game was wasted on some fans, who had signs mocking the Boston bombings slogan with displays that read "Toronto Stronger."
According to the Huffington Post, the signs mocked the 'Boston Strong' saying after the bombings and many fans hit social media to deride the display as classless. It was only one or a handful of fans, but many on social media were bashing it during the game and it eventually was trending in Boston during the matchup and sparked one fan to counter with a picture of his own.
The Bruins won the Game 5-2 to spoil the festivities for the fans and also shut up the one who had the sign in the first place. Adam McQuaid, Rich Peverley, Nathan Horton, Daniel Paille and David Krejci all scored for the Bruins, while the Maple Leafs had goals from former Bruin Phil Kessel and Jake Gardiner.
