The 2013 French Open is just a few weeks from taking off. Of course, one of the more important parts of the tournament is finding out what each bracket looks like as some players will have a tougher time getting to the finals than others. As the tournament draws closer, here are somethings you can know about the seedings.
On Friday, May 24, on the French Open website, you will find all the information about player seedings. Hey, there might even be a live stream available on the site as they will be manually selecting the top ranked players' positions.
Here's how it works.
There are 128 spots available in the bracket. There will be qualifiers before the beginning of the official tournament, to fill in the final spots available. For those who follow NCAA's Basketball Tournament, it's sort of like having those schools play before the true madness begins. It's the same situation here.
There will be 96 slots automatically placed on the brackets with unseeded players. The final 32 spots will be the seeded players and they will be hand selected on May 24 at 11:30 a.m. in French Local Time.
Who selects the seeded players?
The year's previous champions, only there's a bit of a flip. Rafael Nadal will choose the Women's Singles seedings, while Maria Sharapova will be in charge of doing the honors of picking out the Men's Singles seeding.
After this is done, the French Open draws will be settled and every player will know who they might eventually play further down the road.
