The NYPD has released a video and is looking for a group of men who committed a possible hate crime attack near Madison Square Garden after Game 2.
According to Yahoo, Nick Porto and Kevin Atkins were walking away from MSG after the game when a group of Knicks fans started harassing them and started using homophobic slurs. A fight broke out and punches started flying and the two men were left with a broken nose and broken wrist and police are now looking for suspects for a potential hate crime. The perpetrator was wearing a Carmelo Anthony jersey and the news is even more pronounced after Jason Collins announced he was gay.
The attack came around 5pm during the third quarter of the game and happened on eighth avenue at that time. Proto said he should not have spoken back just walked away.
The NYPD released photos and videos about the incident and the couple wrote later on Facebook about it, saying that: "They called us f----ts. They made fun of my jeans - I made the jeans myself, for that day," and when he asked why the group was bothering them, "Fists started flying. I was on the ground, and the only thing I could do, I reached out and grabbed someone's hair."
