The San Antonio Spurs are hoping their series with Golden State ends tonight. The team has taken a 3-2 lead in the series and they are ready to wrap things up with a win on the road. However that will be harder than it sound. In this series, neither team has won consecutive games and Golden State is 4-0 after a playoff loss. The climb is uphill for the Spurs.
San Antonio is proving to be every bit the savvy veterans they are. They have shown great poise under pressure, not ready to give up on their championship dreams just yet. As Golden State fights off injuries, the Spurs finally have the upper hand they were assumed to have from the beginning.
Stephen Curry is fighting a nagging left ankle sprain that has flared up in the second round. Klay Thompson is showing signs of exhaustion, insisting he just needs rest. Both Curry and Thompson have shined in the post season but have slowed down in recent games. Thompson did not even attempt a 3-point shot in Tuesday's loss, while he and Curry combined for just 13 points, going 6 for 22. The nickname of the "Splash Brothers" is slowing falling apart as the players do.
The Spurs have won 11 of 12 best-of-seven playoff series when they have been leading going into Game 6. The odds get better for San Antonio. Teams that have won Game 5, go on to win the series 88 out of 99 times. However, Golden State won its only NBA title after coming back from a 3-2 deficit, so it is possible.
Game 6 will be loud. Golden State has only made the playoffs twice since 1994 and the fans are ready to continue making some noise. If they can tie the series once again, they will play Game 7 on the road and try and win consecutive games.
