NBA Playoffs Results: Final Score San Antonio Spurs Win, Defeat Grizzlies in OT Taking 2-0 Lead in WCF Series

May 22, 2013 12:08 AM EDT

Tim Duncan stepped up big for the San Anotnio Spurs as they won Game 2 in overtime against the Memphis Grizzlies. He scored six points in the extra time and recorded a block on a potential game-tying layup by Marc Gasol. It was unncessarily a close game in which the Spurs were able to regain momentum and win the game 93-89.

The Grizzlies fought back, but they couldn't close the door on the Spurs.

Memphis tied this ball game with 18.2 seconds left as Mike Conley drove to the lane shooting over Parker. They trailed by as many as 18 points in this one, but they got pretty lucky on a huge call late in the game. The officials called a big flagrant foul on a play where Tony Allen took a violent spill as Manu Ginobili prevented the easy layup from falling. Thanks to Allen's acting, referees awarded the Grizzlies with two free throws and possession. Allen got them closer and Conley sunk the layup to tie the game.

Parker finished with 18 assists as the Spurs had 29 assists as a team. The Spurs put a hurting in the second quarter of this game. After the Grizzlies held the Spurs to just 15 points in the first 12 minutes, the Spurs dropped 31 points on the Grizzlies, as many as Memphis totaled in the first half.

Parker started cutting up the Grizzlies' defense early on as he had eight assists at the half and seven Spurs had at least five points. There was no selfish playing once again as the passing game helped cut open lanes for San Antonio.

In the second quarter, the Grizzlies took the lead, but after the scoreboard read 23-22 in favor of Memphis, the Spurs closed the half on a 24-8 run pouring it on from three and setting up their transition offense. Zach Randolph was shut down early scoring just two points and going 1-8 from the floor in the first 24 minutes of the game.

The Grizzlies bounced back in the third quarter looking more like themselves as they scored 33 points. Conley continued to dominate and was reliable as he led the Grizzlies with 18 points. They were able to go into the fourth quarter down just 12 points. The Grizzlies then continued to hustle and took the lead down to just five with 4:52 remaining in the game, as they showed their first signs of getting into this battle.

The Grizzlies didn't score for over three minutes and the Spurs went cold as well. However, the Grizzlies were able to pick up the slack and hit big shots down the stretch. The final minutes of this game aren't good news for the Spurs as they were unable to close out this game despite having plenty of opportunities. The Grizzlies showed they have the fight in them and heading into Memphis, the Grizzlies will have to play more organized if they plan on getting in the winning column in this series. The Grizzlies bench played a huge part once again as Jerryd Bayless scored 18 points and Quincy Pondexter added seven very important points.

This game, however, was about Duncan's clutch play as he came to the rescue in overtime and totaled 17 points with nine rebounds and four blocked shots.
