The San Antonio Spurs are up 2-0 in the their NBA playoffs series against the Memphis Grizzlies after winning 93-89 in overtime on Tuesday night despite being completely dominated in the fourth quarter and now are in control heading into Game 3.
The Spurs looked like they were on their way to a second straight blowout after taking a big lead in halftime, but the Grizzlies stormed back in the second half and outscored the Spurs 33-30 in the third before running away 21-9 in the fourth quarter to tie the game. The overtime period was close for a bit, but the Spurs eventually pulled away with the victory and now have a 2-0 lead as Game 3 shifts the series back to Memphis. Tim Duncan continued his strong play in the postseason with 17 points to lead the Spurs, while Tony Parker was fantastic with 18 assists.
Zach Randolph was much more effective in Game 2 than he was in Game after scoring two points and he snagged 18 rebounds on the night with 15 points, but it wasn't enough for the victory. The Spurs were up 13 at one point in the fourth and the Grizzlies never gave up as they were able to come back and force the extra period of play. Parker had 15 points and 18 assists and the big play came when Jerryd Bayless missed his three point attempt at the end after Parker missed a free throw. Memphis rallied in the game before losing and a 2-0 deficit isn't a big deal wither, as they came back against the Clippers after going down 2-0. The Grizzlies play very well at home and Mike Conley will be ready to lead the team after scoring 18 points in the game.
Duncan had to sit for most of the second half with foul trouble and he added 17 points and nine rebounds in the game while Memphis made their comeback with a 15-2 run. The Grizzlies took advantage of foul trouble for Parker and the team made another run and after Parker started the game so well he missed a few big shots at the end of the game, letting the Grizzlies rally back to force overtime. Game 1 was a total blow out for the Grizzlies and Game 2 gives the team much more confidence heading back home.
