Liverpool Youngsters Pushing For More Game Time

John Flanagan and Sebastian Coates are both hoping to continue to impress Kenny Dalglish this season, with the young duo aiming to make their places on Liverpool's first team a regular occurrence.

Flanagan has made five appearances for the Reds this season, but last Saturday marked only his second in the Premier League.

And while the 19 year old was disappointed to lose to Wigan at the weekend, he hopes his performances for the club will convince Dalglish that he is ready to make the step up to being a regular in Liverpool's starting line-up.

"I think I did alright but the result is the main thing and we're all disappointed with [the result]," he said, as reported by Sky Sports.

"Everyone in the dressing room is very disappointed. We dominated the game but we have to pick ourselves up.

"I'll keep training hard and try to impress the boss and hopefully get more game time."

Flanagan insisted that while Liverpool are currently struggling in the Premier League - the side have lost five of their last six matches - starting youngsters such as himself and fellow teen Raheem Sterling shows that the Reds will be a force of the future.

"I was delighted for Raheem," he explained, as the 17 year old was handed his senior debut at the weekend. "Kenny gave the young kids a chance again, which is great for the club. It shows what we've got coming through."

Meanwhile, summer purchase Coates is still settling into life in England, after the 21 year old moved to the club from South American side Nacional.

And after nine appearances for the Anfield club, the starlet believes he's finally finding his feet and will push for more first team chances as the season hits the business end.

"I feel more settled now," he said. "As the months and the time goes by, the period becomes a lot more easy.

"I am enjoying the football and I know I have to be patient to play more games, purely because the other defenders have been so consistent for a long time.

"That is the nature of defence. Especially in that position, when it is working, you don't change it.

"I gained this attitude when Diego Godin had an injury before the Copa America and I got a chance. Because I did well, I stayed in the team.

"So you must respect your team-mates when they perform. There can be no arguments."
