With Radamel Falcao looking increasingly likely to move to Monaco, Chelsea have started looking at other options to bring in a new striker in the summer transfer window and have made an enquiry with Galatasaray over Burak Yilmaz.
Chelsea have prioritized the signing of a quality striker in the summer, and have so far been left frustrated, with their No.1 target Falcao yet to make a concrete decision over his move to Stamford Bridge.
It is understood, the Colombian is closing in on a move to wealthy French club Monaco, instead, with the newly-promoted side confirming they were close to signing the prolific striker.
That has led to the Blues making a call over the availability Yilmaz, with Galatasaray telling Chelsea the 27-year-old striker would cost in excess of £20 million ($30 million), according to the Guardian.
Yilmaz had a stellar first season with Galatasaray, after making a move from fellow Turkish club Trabzonspor last summer. The striker scored eight goals in the Champions League and was the leading scorer in the tournament at one point before being overtaken by Cristiano Ronaldo.
He has also scored 24 league goals and was instrumental in Galatasaray winning the Turkish league title, but is contracted to his current side for a further three years.
Yilmaz has previously expressed his happiness at Galatasaray and has made no sounds over a move away from Turkey, where he has spent his entire career.
Jose Mourinho witnessed Yilmaz in action against Real Madrid in the first leg of the Champions League quarterfinals, and no doubt the Portuguese will have a big say over the matter when he eventually takes over at Chelsea, with an official announcement expected next month.
Chelsea are also looking at Robert Lewandowski of Borussia Dortmund, Edinson Cavani of Napoli and Mario Gomez of Bayern Munich, while Manchester United forward Wayne Rooney has been heavily linked.
Lewandowski, who has also been monitored by Manchester United, is expected to sign for Bayern Munich in the summer, while Cavani is a top target for Manchester City.
Gomez looks like a decent candidate, but doubts remain over the striker's capabilities to cut it in the English Premier League, despite being prolific in front of goal in the Bundesliga.
