Manchester United playmaker Shinji Kagawa said he will be rooting for Borussia Dortmund in the Champions League final against Bayern Munich as midfield ace Bastian Schweinsteiger aims for perfection with the German champions.
Kagawa spent two seasons with Dortmund, between 2010-12, before signing for United last summer, and the Japanese believes his former side will prove to be a bigger threat to the seemingly unstoppable Bayern than some people are predicting.
"Bayern will find it hard against Dortmund as they haven't beaten them in the league for three seasons," Kagawa told the club's official website.
"Dortmund will play hard without being overconfident. I expect it will be an exciting match and I hope Dortmund will be European champions.
"I want to play better in the Champions League next season because I've been inspired to see Dortmund make it to the final. I was encouraged to know there is a chance for me to be on the big stage with United.
"I've followed how they are doing and have kept in touch with some of the players. Each time they progressed in the Champions League, I sent them a text to say congratulations."
However, it will not be easy for Dortmund, though, with Schweinsteiger, whose Bayern side finished a stunning 25 points ahead of second-placed Dortmund in the Bundesliga, expecting his side to finally put behind their Champions League final heartaches of the past.
After easily sealing the Bundesliga title, Bayern still have two trophies to play for before the season winds down, starting with the Champions League final at Wembley against Dortmund which will be followed by the German Cup final against Stuttgart on Saturday week, as they attempt to complete a treble.
"We've taken a massive stride towards perfection, and we're aiming for a perfect performance in the final," Schweinsteiger said.
"For me, the decisive factor will be everyone working hard and running for the others when we don't have the ball.
"If we play to our potential, it's very hard for anyone to win against us."
