Evan Gattis is the real deal. He is currently a utility man that earned his fame after Brian McCann was injured at the beginning of the season. After hitting home run, after home run in his rookie year, Gattis is getting a lot of attention and there is even a public service announcement created by 680 WFAN in Atlanta. Here, the discuss everything the Atlanta Braves' slugger has been through while in the majors and in his life.

Whoa! It gets very believable when the guy begins telling his account of a Gattis story in Spanish needing a translator to retell the story for non-Spanish speakers. Handling a hostage crisis in the middle of a game? Trees committing suicide? Fear of dethroning already professional ballplayers? Though these things are hilarious, it makes you wonder if trees actually did commit suicide to make their way in to the majors along side Gattis.
Though a little superfluous, these details back up that Gattis is having a hell of a year. He's first in rookies in home runs and RBI smacking 10 long balls and driving in 27 runs in 37 games. Currently, Gattis has hit five more home runs and has driven in 10 more runs than any other rookie. He's hitting a home run every 12 plate appearances. His batting average isn't amazing and his fielding isn't exceptional, but what he's doing with his bat is pretty special.
He comes up big in clutch situations and just smacked his first career grand slam after just his third at bat with the bases loaded. Gattis can come off the bench and tie the game and has hit big home runs to give the Braves leads or tie the game.
They should soon start a petition for Gattis to enter the home run derby. However, if he continues raking, it won't be necessary as Gattis' story and legend is expected to continue growing. The former janitor and ski lift operator has made a huge return to baseball and El Oso Blanco will look to continue being the best rookie in 2013 while also growing the legend of a so far unbelievable beginning to a career in baseball.
