Both David Gill and David De Gea expect Wayne Rooney to stay at Manchester United next season, despite the forward asking for a move away in the summer.
Rooney's future has been up for much debate after Sir Alex Ferguson confirmed the Englad international had expressed his desire for a new adventure.
However, with suitors for the 27-year-old few and far between, mainly due to his wages of £250,000 a week ($378,000), there is a real possibility that Rooney could stay on at Old Trafford, especially with United maintaining their stand of not willing to sell their player.
Paris Saint Germain look like the likeliest destination for Rooney, with the French club reportedly ready to match the wages of the player, but no club from England have shown a concrete interest, according to reports, with United anyway unlikely to sell to a direct rival.
United chief executive Gill, who is set to step down for Ed Woodward at the end of next month, believes Rooney will still be a Red Devil come the start of next season.
"As Sir Alex said at his last press conference, that's an issue for David Moyes," Gill said. "I'm confident he will be there next season.
"He's a great, great player and the club doesn't want to lose its star players.
"So I'm sure every bit of work is being taken with Wayne and his advisors and the club to make sure that happens.
"I'm not a betting man but I'm confident when I sit at Old Trafford next season I will see Wayne Rooney running out."
Rooney's teammate De Gea is also hopeful the two of them will be playing on the same team next season.
"He looks fine to me, happy," the Spaniard told El Larguero. "We do not know if he will go, but we hope he stays. He is a very important player for us."
De Gea also insisted at his happiness at United, after enjoying a stellar season for the English Premier League champions.
The goalkeeper has been linked with moves to both Barcelona and Real Madrid, but for the time being De Gea insisted he is going nowhere.
"That would be very difficult," he added. "I am very happy at United. Things are going really well, better every day. I am very happy."
