When New York Jets running back Mike Goodson was arrested on multiple chargers, owner Woody Johnson made a statement that Goodson violated the motto of 'truth, justice and the American way." He said the Jets make a point to be an upstanding team in the league and Goodson was not living up to that standard. While Johnson hoped the statement would please the fans, it certainly is not please one former Jet, Joe Namath.
The Hall of Fame quarterback feels that the franchise is misleading fans about the overall quality and moral standards of the team.
"I want to be honest. I think they've been deceptive. I still got a hang-up over personal seat licenses. It's greed and it's unfair, but life is unfair," Namath said.
Namath is irritated with the Jets performance on the field, off the field and their treatment of fans. For a quarterback that brought the Jets a lot of fame, he is pretty unhappy. On the top of Namath's complaint list is not just the Johnson statement, but the seat licenses.
PSLs have been a struggle to Jets fans as they struggle to release them a fact value. The New York Post understands that the Jets fans are not happy about the seats, noting "the only thing harder to get rid of than Mark Sanchez" are the PSLs.
The Jets are attempting to do everything they can to eliminate the media circus that surrounded the team last season. After dumping Tebow, they are trying to stay out of the papers as much as possible. The front office is attempting to bounce back with new general manager John Idzik who is looking to gain respect. While Namath did not have a comment about Idzik, he did note that he does not have a good relationship with Johnson.
This is not the first time that Namath has had choice words about the Jets. He has been vocal about his support of Mark Sanchez and his distaste for Geno Smith. He believes that Sanchez is the future and cannot seem to understand why Smith is even there.
While Namath continues to criticize the Jets, he has made plans to attend the Hall of Fame ceremony in Canton, representing the team that he seems to dislike in recent months. Namath has only made a few trips to the site after being inducted in 1985, but promises to be there for another special day in football history.
