The NBA free agency period is set to begin in about a month, and while the uncertainty of the Dwight Howard's future with the Los Angeles Lakers certainly still looms around the franchise and their fans, there's still no telling what the future holds for the team.
However, in the meantime during this period of uncertainty, former head coach Phil Jackson continues to make his rounds in promotion of his new book, Eleven Rings. As he reflects on his coaching career Jackson is constantly asked how he would plan to fix the Lakers current roster situation if he were the man in charge.
Jackson's game plan is simple, as he believes the Lakers should be going to their strength in the paint. The Lakers have probably the most talented front court in the league with two towers in Howard and Pau Gasol. While coach Mike D'Antoni hasn't been able to figure a formula to use the two at the same time, only leading to the speculation that Gasol may be moved during a trade this offseason.
Meanwhile, one player who's sure not to go anywhere is veteran guard Steve Nash. Much has been made of Nash's age and whether or not he can still compete in the league, but as he appeared in court in front of a judge in a custody case, Nash said he does not plan to retire from the NBA.
According to TMZ report this is how things went down:
39-year-old Steve Nash swore under penalty of perjury ... the Los Angeles Lakers star has no plans to hang up his jersey and retire from basketball, TMZ has learned.
The revelation ironically came in the middle of a legal war he's having with his ex-wife over her plans to move with their kids from Arizona to California.
Steve is trying to block the move ... his ex believes it's because Nash fears a California judge would nail him for child support.
Steve is on the stand right now ... and that's where he revealed he plans to stick around the NBA for a while.
Nash struggled in his first season with the team, largely in part of being plagued by various injuries. The Lakers and their fans are hoping that next season Nash can regain his All-Star form to help better the team's chances of once again making a finals appearance.
