The United States will be hoping for a better result after their 4-2 thumping by Belgium, but come up against a Germany side capable of doing even more damage in their day.
The two sides meet in an international friendly in Washington, with U.S. coach Jurgen Klinsmann, who had a stellar international career with Germany, desperately looking for his side to show some form ahead of a tricky round of World Cup qualifying fixtures.
"There's a lot we can learn from these opponents," Klinsmann told Ussoccer.com. "This is why we play teams like Belgium, like Germany, like Russia or like Italy because there's so much that you can read from those games.
"Obviously you want to win them and when you lose them it's not such a big pleasure, but I'd rather play Belgium ten more times than El Salvador 100 times because that's where you learn.
"Therefore, we take the defeat and go to Washington and get more into a flow and more into a rhythm. We will get the rest of our players in -- we're still missing five or six guys -- and we'll make sure we do a better job on Sunday against Germany."
U.S. midfielder Michael Bradley also expects a tough encounter against Germany, who have brought a second-string side to the U.S., with regulars from Bayern Munich, Borussia Dortmund and Real Madrid missing.
"We have a lot of respect for their team," Bradley told reporters. "They already had a very good team and in the past few years they've made big strides.
"So even on a day when they don't have all of their first choice guys, you still have to have respect for that next group of guys who are working and fighting to get their way in."
Germany easily defeated Ecuador 4-2 in their first friendly in Florida, with Lukas Podolski and Lars Bender scoring a brace each. Joachim Low was pleased to see his largely second-string side put up such a strong performance against the South Americans.
"I've always said that we need a group of 30 players in the national team, not just 20 or 25," Low told Bundesliga.com. "The newcomers were really good in the first half.
"We need to start strongly again (against the U.S.) and keep the pace of the game high. Then we'll be able to beat them."
