David De Gea admitted he would love to return to his former club Atletico Madrid at some point in his career, while Edwin Van Der Sar believes Wayne Rooney is likely to stay at Manchester United next season, despite asking for a move away in the summer.
De Gea had a breakout season for United, making some crucial saves to help United to 20th league and 13th English Premier League title.
The Spanish goalkeeper's good form has led to some suggestions of an impending move back to La Liga, with the likes of Real Madrid and Barcelona reportedly showing an interest while Atletico are always an option.
De Gea still follows his former club closely and was ecstatic after seeing Atletico clinch the Copa Del Rey title by beating local rivals Real at the Bernabeu.
"To win at Madrid's Bernabeu in a final, I cannot ask for anything more because they also have qualified for the Champions and have made a great season," he told AS.
"Hopefully in the future I can return, you never know. It has been and will always be my home."
De Gea also admitted it would be strange not to have Sir Alex Ferguson at the helm when the players return for preseason, but believes new manager David Moyes is more than capable of doing the job.
"Obviously there will be a change, he was the coach for many years, many titles and many joys," he added. "Now comes a new coach I think it will continue in the same line of Sir Alex and dynamics will be similar.
"Playing for United, one of the greatest clubs in the world, is always a source of pride to me. Every time I pull the shirt on, I'm pulling on the history of this club."
Meanwhile, Van Der Sar has backed Rooney to remain with the Red Devils, saying United is still the best option for the England international.
"There has been so much pressure on him, you build him up and put all your money on him to make England world or European champions," the former United keeper told BBC Radio 5 Live.
"So it's also quite easy to cut him down again. Players have indifferent seasons and maybe Wayne's been overtaken by Robin van Persie this year but it's the hard work that he puts in for the team (that should be recognized).
"It was maybe a lesser season (for Rooney) and he didn't play the last couple of games but he's really important for United.
"English players tend to stay in England to play their football and rightly so because you have big clubs, the tradition and the stadiums are always full.
"With the change of manager and backroom staff it could be a big change for Manchester United but I don't think you'll find a better atmosphere at many other clubs."
