Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has admitted he would be interested in buying Wayne Rooney from Manchester United, while saying Cesc Fabregas is lacking in confidence at Barcelona.
The Gunners have been widely tipped to spend big in the summer with Wenger given considerably funds to bring quality and turn the club into title contenders yet again.
Ever since Sir Alex Ferguson announced Rooney had asked to leave the club in the summer, Arsenal have been linked with a move, even if the player's £250,000 a week ($380,000) wages have always been seen as a hindrance.
In an interview with Al Jazeera, Wenger admitted anyone would be crazy to turn down signing Rooney, further fuelling speculation of a possible summer move, while saying new United manager David Moyes has his work cut out to convince the England international, who scored against Brazil, to stay at Old Trafford.
"Rooney could be an interesting player for everybody in the world, who would turn him down?" he told Al Jazeera.
"David Moyes' first challenge is to go in to Manchester and bridge the gap between him and Rooney. If that is feasible or not depends on his personality and if Rooney bears a grudge or not, we will see.
"It will be interesting to see how that will be handled."
Another player linked with a sensational move is Fabregas, who has been left frustrated at the lack of regular playing time at Barcelona.
Fabregas, who has also been linked with moves to Manchester United and Manchester City, was the main man during his time at Arsenal, and Wenger believes the fact that he is in and out of the team has led to the midfielder losing his confidence.
"I think at the moment he's lacking the confidence of being a regular player," Wenger added. "Recently he has not been that.
"Cesc is such a passionate player, a player of such quality, that it must hurt him not to play in every single game. That's what he misses. When you come in and out you never play with full confidence."
One thing is for certain, if Fabregas does make a move back to Arsenal, he will certainly be seen as one of the most important players in the team and welcomed back with open arms by the majority of the Arsenal fans.
