Los Angeles Lakers guard Kobe Bryant gets through his challenging Achilles tendon tear recovery by updating his fans with his recovery process via social media platforms. He's posted photos of himself going into surgery, photos of his foot during surgery, photos of him in a walking boot and even photos of him going through physical therapy.
Now, he's recently given fans a glimpse of his "medical mamba" shoe, which gives him extra heel support for his Achilles.
Though Bryant's updates continue to be encouraging images for fans, he's still not actually walking on his surgically repaired Achilles as of yet. Along with his new shoes, he has been using a machine to reduce a certain percentage of body weight to reduce the amount of pressure on his legs.
Bryant's strides towards recovery have been mostly positive news this offseason for the Lakers, but what's been less than encouraging has been the latest news of free-agent-to-be Dwight Howard.
For weeks now it's been rumored that Howard has been deciding on whether to re-sign with the Lakers or opt out for Houston to join the Rockets.
The Rockets' James Harden hasn't made his decision any much easier as he's been rumored to be trying to recruit Howard as well as other players to join the Rockets fold.
Howard's likely thinking about the future and signing with the Lakers will surely ensure another difficult season for Howard in the future. In the summer of 2014, while other stars will become free agents, the Lakers would only have Howard and Steve Nash under contract and will likely be in the process of rebuilding for the 2014-15 season.
Now let's imagine that if Howard were to sign with the Rockets, by the summer of 2014 the Rockets would have Howard, James Harden, Omer Asik, Chandler Parsons and Jeremy Lin on their roster, with the flexibility to add on.
Though this isn't the news Lakers fans want to hear, there's still a small window of hope that he'll re-sign.
The obvious $128 million max deal the Lakers could offer Howard is certainly an incentive to remain with the team. Also if you factor in that after next season, the Lakers' will likely be his team to reign over; Bryant, Pau Gasol and Metta World Peace being off the books, Howard will have the power to do his own recruitment to whoever he wants.
