NBA Playoffs 2013: Jerry West Compares 1971-72 Los Angeles Lakers To Current Miami Heat Team

The Miami Heat are currently one game away from their third consecutive Eastern Conference title and one step closer to a consecutive NBA title.

The Heat have continued to dominate throughout the playoffs, up until now against the Indiana Pacers, but before the start of playoffs, they went on an impressive 27-game winning streak, which prompted comparisons to the 1971-72 Lakers team that went 33 straight victories.

Now, led by LeBron James, the Heat have become one of the best teams in recent memory, but according to the Los Angeles Times, Lakers great Jerry West, who was a part of the 71-72 team, said that he believes his Lakers could handle their own against the 2012-13 Heat team.

"Obviously I want to say that we would win. I don't know if that would be a fact or not," iconic Lakers guard Jerry West told Bob Costas during a sit-down video interview. "It would be very interesting because they're not a very good rebounding team and we were one of the best rebounding teams I've ever seen."

"They have two magnificent players. We had a bunch of guys that were pretty good," continued the Hall of Famer. "Selfishly, I'd like to think we could play with those guys."

The Heat's biggest problem has been their inability to crash the boards, as evident in their series against the Pacers' Roy Hibbert and David West, and would likely stand no chance against the great Wilt Chamberlain.

Still, this would make for an interesting matchup to view, but too bad fans will never know how the outcome would turn out.
