Roger Federer was eliminated from the 2013 French Open as the Frenchman Jo-Wilfried Tsonga dominated their matchup. It didn't take long and it shocked many as Tsonga put Federer away in three straight sets 7-5, 6-3, 6-3.
You can say clay doesn't suit Federer, but it also could be said that Tsonga is simply on a tear. With these three straight sets won, Tsonga has now won all 15 sets played in his five matches in the tournament. In this match, each set took less than 40 minutes as Tsonga struggled early on. As the match rolled along, however, it was clear Federer was not at his best and Tsonga took hold of the momentum.
Federer's 34 unforced errors had a lot to do with the loss as the Swiss finished with 12 more unforced errors than Tsonga. Federer was pulling the ball as he was having issues controlling his forehand, which was the shot that did him in and won the match for Tsonga.
Tsonga hurdled one of the toughest guys in the tournament and he will now proceed to face David Ferrer in the semifinals of the French Open. Ferrer owns that head-to-head matchup as his record is 2-1 against the Frenchman. The last time they met was in the Paris where Ferrer defeated Tsonga in the quarterfinals.
