NFL News And Rumors: Roger Goodell Plans To Expand London Games To Three Games A Year

Jun 05, 2013 10:33 AM EDT

NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell has plans on expanding the league's overseas schedule in the near future, according to NFL.com.

During a New York University conference on Tuesday, Goodell revealed that the league is planning to add a third London game each year. He even told the New York Post's Bart Hubbuch that there's a good chance that the Jacksonville Jaguars will play two games in London annually.

The goal is to eventually place an NFL team in London. With many English Premier League teams having already upgraded their stadiums, football games can now be played at other venues beyond Wembley Stadium. London mayor Boris Johnson has pointed out that the $780 million stadium constructed for the 2012 Olympics does not have a permanent tenant.

Goodell also recently spoke on plans on expanding the NFL season to 18 weeks while attending the NFL's spring owners meeting.

Goodell said all "[options] are on the table."

"As I have said before, I think the structure of the season is something that we consistently reevaluate," he said. "I have been quite open about [indicating that] we have to address the quality of the preseason.

"I hear from fans consistently that they want to make every NFL event more valuable. They see the preseason as being less valuable to them because they don't see the best players and the games do not count," he said. "We have to address that, whether we are looking at 18 [regular-season games] and two [preseason games] or 16-and-two and expanded playoffs."
