Washington Redskins News And Rumors: Robert Griffin III Expects To Be Ready By First Day Of Training Camp

Washington Redskins quarterback Robert Griffin III said Thursday that "without a doubt" he expects to be fully recovered and ready for action by the start of training camp on July 25 in Richmond, Va.

"This was a big week with four straight days on the field, throwing every day, throwing on the run," Griffin told reporters after practice, referring to his comeback from reconstructive surgery on his right knee. "Every day you want to feel better and that's how it's been."

Griffin underwent surgery on Jan. 9 to repair the ACL and LCL he had torn during the playoff loss to the Seattle Seahawks three days prior.

Despite feeling more "comfortable" physically, Griffin says he's also been equipped to handle the mental challenges with his continued road to recovery.

"I felt good today," Griffin said. "That's what I'm excited about, to have those four straight days and still feel good with no soreness. Every day you want to feel better and that's how it's been. I started throwing on the run a lot more, doing a lot more plant throws out of the play-action. I also bumped up the long-distance running. I'm feeling more comfortable doing everything."

Though Griffin feels ready, coach Mike Shanahan said Griffin was initially projected to miss seven to nine months. That would mean he wouldn't be able to return before Aug. 9, the day after Washington opens its preseason against the Tennessee Titans.

"I don't think anybody knows for sure, [but] I like that goal," Shanahan said of Griffin being ready for camp. "You want him to come back as soon as he's ready to go, but the doctor's gotta OK him."
