Seattle Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson played baseball before turning pro in the NFL and even though he ditched his cleats and gloves for a pigskin, he will get the chance to throw a pitch at a major league park, albeit just an opening one.
According to Facebook, the Seattle Seahawks star quarterback will throw out the first pitch on Friday night as the Mariners take on the Yankees. The Mariners fell to the Yanks 6-1 on Thursday in the first of a four game set and that came after their 7-5 heartbreaking loss to the White Sox in 16 innings the previous day.
The Yankees got out quickly in front of the Mariners, scoring six runs in the third off two home runs, on from Robinson Cano with two men on and then one from Mark Teixeira that was a solo shot. Ichiro got a hit and an RBI during the game in his return to Seattle and the Mariners' only offensive star in Kyle Seager drove in their lone run in the eighth inning. Wilson is ready to get back on the field after an 11-5 season as a rookie and he feels that the Seahawks are Super Bowl caliber.
