The French Open may need to change its name from Roland Garros to the Rafael Nadal Major soon, as the Spanish star defeated Novak Djokovic in an epic five set match to advance to the finals at the major for the eighth time as he looks to win another title there.
Nadal won the epic match 6-4, 3-6, 6-1, 6-7 (3), 9-7 after losing to Djokovic once on clay earlier in the season and now he will play against fellow Spaniard David Ferrer in the finals. Nadal is looking for his eighth title there and is now 58-1 at the event and he stopped Djokovic from getting the career slam.
"I was ready for the fight," Nadal said. "I really fought a lot."
Many in the sports world tweeted out their love and congratulations for Nadal on his win, including commentator Patrick McEnroe and many others in the tennis world, such as Andy Murray and Martina Navratilova. ESPN Stats & Information also tweeted out some info:
-- ESPN Stats & Info @ESPNStatsInfo 3h: "Rafael Nadal has won 27 straight matches at the French Open."
