When you type "Serena Williams hates" in Google search, the first name that pops up is " Maria Sharapova." Try it, take a few and see what comes up. It's real. But when you scroll through the stories, none of the articles provide information on why Williams hates Sharapova.
The only thing that comes close to explaining why Williams might dislike Sharapova is a Yahoo! Answer where fans provide their thoughts. All the answers were four years ago and nobody has a concrete response to the question. One user said Williams was jealous of Sharapova's success. Dating back to four years ago, Williams was winning. She won the Australian Open and at Wimbledon. So being jealous about Sharapova's success doesn't really make sense.
The only logic is that Williams dislikes Sharapova because the Russian beat her in 2004 at Wimbledon after she had won the championship in back-to-back fashion. Sharapova defeated Williams easily in two sets 6-1, 6-4. Sharapova was only 17 at the time. It was supposed to be William's championship, however, with the victory, Sharapova was able to win the first grand slam title of her career.
Maybe Williams was just mad at herself for losing at Wimbledon and promised never to lose to Sharapova again. However, Sharapova went on to defeat Williams in Miami that same year. This was the turning point in the Sharapova vs. Williams matchup. Williams hasn't dropped another match to Sharapova and simply puts a beating on her every time they face. Williams has won 12 consecutive matches including twice at Wimbledon, once at the Australian Open and then last year at the 2012 London Olympics.
If beating your opponent is hating them, then maybe Williams does hate Sharapova. However, using the hate word is pretty strong. If anything, let's just say Sharapova brings the best out of Williams.
Williams is a career 13-2 against Sharapova in her career. The two ladies faceoff for the Women's Singles finals at the 2013 French Open.
