Los Angeles Lakers star Kobe Bryant has had enough to deal with after suffering a serious Achilles injury that it must be welcome news that he has settled a case with his parents over the sale of hundreds of memorabilia items from the All-Star's past.
According to ESPN.com, Bryant reached a deal with his parents and received and apology that allowed 10 percent of the items originally intended for sale to be auctioned off after the two sides were in a disagreement about what was allowed to be sold or not. The case was set to go to trial next week and Bryant was able to reach a deal before that and the auction house is expecting the items to still sell for $500,000 combined despite the changes in the amount.
Bryant's parents were planning to sell the items at auction and apologized in a statement through a publicist. The two sides were in a disagreement over whether the items could be or should be sold and Bryant was mad that he had never given permission to do so. Both sides appear happy with the resolution, as the company gave an advance to Bryant's mother and they say that the money should be able to come back in the sale. 90 percent of the items have been pulled off the table and the auction house is still prepared to make the sale a profitable one. Some items will include past championship rings as well as high school uniforms and All-Star memorabilia. The auction will go down from June 17 to July 19.
Bryant said that he is planning to return from his injury for the opening game of the season in an interview with ESPNLosAngeles.com on Monday and he also said that he plans on giving Dwight Howard a pitch to stay with LA. Bryant has been vocal about keeping Pau Gasol despite the trade rumors surrounding him and even though the Lakers had a tough season last year, Bryant feels that Howard should stay and try to win a championship.
Bryant said he is being careful with his injury and that despite having interest in teams like the Rockets, Warriors and Mavericks, he feels the Lakers have a lot to offer the center. Bryant said he hopes to speak with him about the move and that he hopes to get the last word in before any decisions are made.
