Ahmad Bradshaw Rumors: Indianapolis Colts Negotiating Contract After Visit, Donald Brown Release Likely if Veteran Running Back Signs

Ahmad Bradshaw is finally seeing some action after months of sitting on the free agent market with not a single team calling his number. After brief interest from the Pittsburgh Steelers and Green Bay Packers, Bradshaw remained without a team. All of that changed when the Indianapolis Colts brought in the veteran for a workout. Bradshaw left without a contract at the time, but a deal could still be in the works.

Ian Rapoport of NFL.com reports the Colts and Bradshaw are in heavy negotiations on a contract. The two parties are hopeful that a deal can be worked out in time for Bradshaw to begin reporting to minicamps and training camp. The holdup on the contract likely has to do with money. Bradshaw is going to be offered the veteran's minimum considering the lack of interest from other teams. The former Giants running back would want more considering his resume shows he has been very successful.

Another hindrance for Bradshaw is his health. The reason he reportedly did not sign with the Steelers was because the team deemed him still unhealthy enough to be a solid option. The running back has had several issues with his foot, undergoing several operations. Despite the injury, the workhorse still managed over 1,000 yards last season. The Colts could desperately use those numbers on the ground game.

If a deal gets done with Bradshaw, it could mean the end of the road for one of three running backs currently under contract in Indianapolis. The team is looking to bump Vick Ballard up the depth chart, meaning either Donald Brown or Delone Carter is pumped off.  In his rookie year, Ballard played all 16 games, rushing for 814 yards and two touchdowns. Brown will be entering into his fifth year with the Colts. Last season he produced 417 yards and one touchdown. Carter will be in his third season with the Colts where he racked up 499 yards and five touchdowns in two seasons.

If the deal with Indianapolis goes sour, Bradshaw risks not seeing the field at all in 2013. The Tampa Bay Buccaneers appear to be the only other option for Bradshaw based on roster needs and cap space. Other than that, he will have to hope a team suffers an injury during training camp and picks him up.
