A.L. All-Star 2013 Leading Vote Getters: Players at Every Position Likely to Make Starting Lineup

Jun 10, 2013 02:02 PM EDT

The 2013 MLB All-Star Game is still a month away, but the votes are being counted as both teams are allowing fans to pick who they want to see play in the Mid-Summer Classic. Check out all the leading vote getters in the American League as some of these guys are almost certainly getting to start in the 2013 All-Star Game.

Miguel Cabrera is the leading vote getter so far in the American League with 2,355,128 votes in his favor. Cabrera would be in charge of manning the hot corner and what's impressive is that he moved back over to third base in 2012 after the Detroit Tigers acquired Prince Fielder. Atop of the voting along with Cabrera is Chris Davis of the Baltimore Orioles. He has received 2,084,274 votes making him the only player, along with Cabrera, to exceed 2 million votes in the American League.

Why are Cabrera and Davis so popular? Well, if there's one thing fans love, it's the long ball and these sluggers have not stopped hitting home runs all year long. Davis leads the majors with 20 home runs while sitting in third place in RBI with 52. His .338 batting average has him tied fifth in the majors. Cabrera has the following line, 17 home runs (3rd in MLB), 67 RBI (1st in MLB), .363 batting average (1st in MLB). Cabrera is inching closer to another triple crown season, but he will need Davis to stop smacking balls out of the ball park if he's to become a back-to-back triple crown winner.

Who Will Play Where?
C Joe Mauer: .332 Avg. 5 HR, 24 RBI- 1,492,396 Votes
1B Chris Davis
2B: Robinson Cano: .339 Avg. 15 HR 40 RBI- 1,851,371 Votes
SS: J.J. Hardy: .270 Avg. 13 HR 39 RBI- 1, 231,843 Votes
3B: Miguel Cabrera
LF: Mike Trout: .305 Avg. 10 HR 40 RBI 14 SB- 1,939,486 Votes
CF: Adam Jones: .306 Avg. 12 HR 40 RBI- 1,944,450 Votes
RF: Torii Hunter: .303 Avg. 2 HR 24 RBI- 1,067,973 Votes
DH: David Ortiz: .322 Avg. 13 HR 48 RBI- 1,716,410 Votes

Surprises
Hardy turned it up in May and gained popularity as he began making more contact. The Orioles will have three of their top players in the All-Star game if things remain this way. With no Derek Jeter in the picture and the league short on shortstop talent, Hardy is a no-brainer. Over in Detroit, Hunter has attracted attention because of his great hitting in 2013. Though Nelson Cruz would seem like the better choice packing more power and production than Hunter, the fans have sided with the Tigers' right fielder and nine-time Gold Glove award winner.
