Last week Miami Heat star LeBron James sparked the debate saying San Antonio's Tim Duncan was the generations best player over Los Angeles' Kobe Bryant, and even now fans haven't stopped the comparison of both players' careers.
Seven-time NBA champion and former Laker and Spurs' forward Robert Horry was privileged to have been able to play with both players in his career, and according to him, Bryant has had the better career.
In his interview with HoopsHype, Horry provided reasoning for choosing Bryant over Duncan:
"I would still pick Kobe. Tim is great, but I tell everybody this: Look at this from the GM perspective. Who's going to sell tickets, put the people in the arena? Tim? Nah, not so many [laughs]. Don't get me wrong, he's going to win, but he won't draw so many people to the arena."
It's hard to argue with Horry when he pleads a case like that, however, Duncan has remained extremely consistent as a winner throughout his career. Bryant on the other hand has seen a career full of valley's and peaks.
Still, comparing the two is difficult being that both their accomplishments are very much so similar. Bryant, who has five rings over that time span, has 10 All-NBA First Team selections to Duncan's nine and nine All-NBA First Team All-Defense selections to Duncan's eight.
Duncan only has the edge when it comes to number of MVP trophies at two MVPs and three Finals MVPS compared to Bryant's one and two respectively.
Duncan currently has four rings and is playing for his fifth. With a fifth ring any doubters may have to reconsider their stance, maybe even joining James' stance.
Bryant has recently agreed upon on a settlement involving rare items of memorabilia, ranging from his youth to his career in the NBA, to be auctioned off by a New Jersey auction firm on the behalf of Kobe's mother, Pamela.
The settlement will allow the auction firm, Goldin Auctions, to still auction 10 percent of the items (six pieces) originally set for auction and a written apology from Kobe's parents, Joe and Pamela, which states:
"We regret our actions and statements related to the Kobe Bryant auction memorabilia," Joe and Pamela Bryant said in the statement provided by a publicist. "We apologize for any misunderstanding and unintended pain we have caused our son and appreciate the financial support he has provided over the years. We also apologize to Goldin Auctions for their inadvertent involvement in this matter and thank them for their assistance."
