Terrell Owens is not giving up on football just yet. The veteran wide receiver has not seen an NFL field since 2010, but that is not stopping him from attempting to make a comeback in 2013. Teams are taking chances on players and Owens is hoping a team takes a chance on him. Owens sat down with the NFL Network to sell himself as a strong starting option for teams in need of a wide receiver.
Owens has not had an NFL team call his number since the Seattle Seahawks released him in 2010 prior to the start of the season. He thinks the main reason a team has not called is due to his past. He notes the league is filled with politics and his immature past is hurting him now.
"I think a lot of of it has to do with my reputation, things that I've done earlier in my career, but I'm a changed person, I'm a little bit more mature than I was in years past," Owens said.
Owens truly believes that he can be a real asset to a team. He has maintained football fitness despite not being in the league. He sat out 2011 after tearing his ACL, but then joined the Allen Wranglers of the Indoor Football League. He was released by the team after losing his stake in the ownership.
"I know I can still play the game and it's a matter of somebody just giving me the opportunity to go out there and play," Owens said.
Owens said he realizes that his past mistakes are hurting his future in the NFL. He has no regrets about the past and is only focused on the future. He is hopeful that at least one team in league will keep an open mind and bring him on board.
Owens is keeping an eye on a few teams he thinks he would be a good fit for. His ideal situation would be back in a West Coast-system because that is where he began. He mentions that the Minnesota Vikings would be a great fit and surprisingly, Owens would be open to signing with the Kansas City Chiefs, reuniting with coach Andy Reid. Owens time with the Eagles was a rollercoaster that included a publicized feud with Donovan McNabb.
If Owens goes unsigned for the 2013 season, he realizes that his career is over. He has been vocal that is he does not play in the upcoming season, he will retire and call it a career.
