The NBA Draft is fast approaching and with a number of teams considering deals, including the Cleveland Cavaliers and Orlando Magic, teams that have picks later in the draft are showing interest and the number two pick could be up for grabs and someone like the Lakers, Rhunder or Hawks may be the ones to deal for it.
According to Pro Basketball Talk, the Orlando Magic have been interested in trading the number two pick in the draft and the report says that there are a number of teams interested in moving up. The Magic are interested in trading out in the hopes of getting some quality in return and although they like Victor Oladipo or Ben McLemore or Nerlens Noel if he slips past the Cavaliers, the team wouldn't mind adding veteran talent to a roster that is already very young.
Since the top of the draft is not as much of a "sure thing" as past ones at the top, the Magic feel comfortable trading out of the pick and selecting someone later in the draft that they feel can help add talent to the roster. Nikola Vucevic and Tobias Harris are two young players the team liked and with head coach Jacque Vaughn remaking the team in his image, the franchise feels it can contend for one of the lower playoff spots with some veteran help.
The Lakers and the Thunder have been rumored to want to trade in to the top five after wanting to add some youth to the roster and since the top teams are considering trades, this might be a good year to move up before the big free agent class hits in 2014. Otto Porter looks like he will be a top three pick and while the Magic thinks that there is talent at the top, they feel they have enough to start building around if they can add pieces in a deal.
The Magic were one of the most inconsistent teams in the NBA last season with a 20-62 record and they scored just 94 points per game and were ranked 24th in points allowed in the league. Arron Afflalo led the team in scoring and heading forward the team wants to be able to contend and a trade may be the best way to speed up that process after the trade with Dwight Howard.
