New York Jets Rumors: Geno Smith to Attend Mark Sanchez Jets West as Rex Ryan Targets Braylon Edwards to Help Struggling Wide Receivers

No matter how hard the New York Jets try, they cannot stop the media circus surrounding the team. Even something simple as telling their players to say "no comment" if they do not understand a question is stirring up drama for the Jets. On Wednesday, rookie quarterback Geno Smith was asked if he would be attending Mark Sanchez's traditional Jets West camp out in California. The quarterback responded with "no comment" and the media went nuts.

Rumors ran wild that there may be tension in the locker room as the two quarterbacks are competing for the starting spot on the team. Now Smith is backtracking on his words saying that he simply had no clue what Jets West was, but if he is invited then he will gladly attend.

"We haven't talked about it, but from my understanding it's something that's done annually and all the guys go out there and it's been a great experience. Mark hasn't officially extended the hand to me, but I'm pretty sure there's no problem there," Smith said.

Sanchez reassured reporters that every skill player is invited to attend and Smith was more than welcome to join. How nice is that? While Smith and Sanchez play nice in the locker room, head coach Rex Ryan is ready to hand out some pink slips on the field.

Ryan and threatening the job security of every wide receiver on the team after the unit handed in yet another practice of poor performance. Dropped passes were the highlight from Wednesday's practice, not exactly pleasing the head coach.

"It has to get better. The fact that I've told everybody about it, is it putting pressure on them? Well, the NFL is a pressure game, you should catch the football. That's your job and certainly we know we have to do a better job, but I expect it to happen immediately and it never happened yesterday either," Ryan said.

The wide receiving group is lacking the marquee names that once filled it in the past. With Santonio Holmes out until further notice, the group is filled with players that have to play a real down of football in the NFL. Stephen Hill, Jeremy Kerley and Jeff Cumberland were among those struggling in practice. Ryan is stressing that if the players expect to make the team, they must perform to their abilities.

The Jets are considering bringing in another veteran receiver to help the struggling unit. The best option is former Jet Braylon Edwards who currently sits on the free agent market.
