Brett Favre is talking about the Green Bay Packers so much lately that people might start thinking the quarterback is considering making another comeback into the NFL. While the future Hall of Fame player starts to mend the relationship between he and his long-time team, Favre is speaking out on things that he has been away from for a few years. After praising management for the job they have done with the Packers, Favre is now speaking highly of his once backup, Aaron Rodgers.
Favre is realizing just how much talent Rodgers has. While sitting does with Sirius XM NFL Radio, Favre expressed confidence in Rodger's ability to break most of the records he once set.
"Aaron has played extremely well, probably even better than anyone anticipated, but I knew he was capable of that and that's why they drafted him. Barring any injury he'll shatter everything I ever did there except for maybe consecutive games. But the guy has been tremendous, great move on their part," Favre said.
This is just the latest of warm feelings Favre has expressed towards the Packers. After well-publicized divorce from the team, both sides are finally starting to come around and put the past behind them. Rodgers can receive some of the credit for getting Favre back into the fold after the two made an appearance at the NFL Honors award show after the 2012-13 season ended.
Favre was not exactly in the best standing with Green Bay and the fan base. The team opted to not retain him when the quarterback announced he was returning and traded him away to the New York Jets. Favre then returned the favor by signing with the Minnesota Vikings a season later, Green Bay's arch-rival. He led the team to the NFC Championship game before losing to the New Orleans Saints.
The two sides have reached common ground and now there are talks of Favre getting his No. 4 jersey retired. It is speculated he will make a return to Lambeau Field for a ceremony soon. Favre currently holds the record for career touchdown passes in Green Bay (442), as well as records with completions in a season (372), completions in a career (5,377) and total passing yards (61,655).
Rodgers is certainly holding a steady pace to break those records. He is now the highest-paid player in NFL history and will be with Green Bay for many years to come. Already the current record holder for passing yards in a season (4,643) and touchdown passes in a season (45), Favre could be right.
