The World Cup and European champions will being their quest for the Confederations Cup title when they take on Copa America winners Uruguay.
Spain are again the favorites to win the tournament and have one special talent after another in their lineup with manager Vicente Del Bosque again very much spoilt for choice.
One of the players who will be hoping to make an impression will be Chelsea playmaker Juan Mata, who is keen to see his country lift the title for the first time.
"There are many reasons why this tournament is so important to us," he is quoted as saying by AS.
"Most importantly we have never won it, but it is also held in Brazil. The thought of winning the trophy at the Maracana is fantastic. It is a mythical stadium."
Del Bosque will also have to choose his first choice goalkeeper with all three of Iker Casillas, Victor Valdes and Pepe Reina capable of walking into any other side in the world.
"(Casillas is) doing well, he's the same as always -- on top form and raring to go," Barcelona goalkeeper Valdes said. "He's very motivated, on and off the pitch. It's important we have a healthy competition, because that will benefit the team.
"I cannot reveal (who is No.1). I am just another member of the squad and that has been the key of this team's success.
"I will do what I am asked, and Del Bosque will decide. I am just grateful to be here, I have felt like the happiest child in the world since I was called up to the squad for the World Cup.
"It is a privilege to play with Spain and to be part of this team."
One of the major players that Spain will have to keep their eye on will be Luis Suarez, and Mata, who is familiar with the Liverpool forward, is a big admirer.
"Suarez is very good," he said. "Not only does he scores goals and provide assists, he brings so much more to the team.
"We have to be very careful with him."
