New England Patriots quarterback Tim Tebow has an new home after being signed as a free agent and over the weekend he spent time with 7,000 men in Alabama to talk about life, football, Jesus and religion and the group was not disappointed.
According to AL.com, Tebow came and spoke to the Gridiron Men's Conference on Friday before Father's Day weekend and spoke about a number of issues, although he left out his newest resume title as quarterback for the Patriots. The report says that Tebow spoke about his family life while growing up with a missionary father, Jesus, his religious beliefs as well as how he was recruited by the Alabama Crimson Tide while in college.
Tebow spoke about his choice of picking the University of Florida over Alabama and that he previously was close with then-head coach Mike Shula while he was being recruited. He said that in high school he thought hard about playing for Alabama, but once Urban Meyer took over as head coach, it made him think more about the Gators. Tebow said that it took until minutes before his press conference to announce where he was playing that he decided on the Gators. He said he prayed about it and then decided on Florida and called Shula to tell him and he said he hoped to coach him one day anyway.
After calling Meyer, Tebow said that he couldn't connect due to some cell phone issues and said that maybe it was fate, but he eventually did get in touch and decide on Florida. He starred there for a number of years and won the Heisman Trophy as well as a national championship and his religious beliefs were never far behind, as he wore Bible verses on his eye black, which eventually was banned.
Tebow spoke about his passion of Jesus and religion and that he looked up to his father, who used to read the bible at breakfast. Tebow said that was how he learned to be a good leader and he showed that when he was drafted by the Broncos in the first round of the draft. He eventually took over as the starter in his second season for a 1-4 team and led them to the playoffs after going 7-4 and he won a division title and a thrilling playoff game against the Steelers.
But after Peyton Manning become a free agent, the Broncos pounced and he was traded to the Jets, were his faith was tested as the team treated him unfairly and never gave him a chance to play. Tebow was released and after some time went by and some rumored that his career was over, the Patriots came knocking and now he is there as a quarterback. Sometimes patience pays off, especially for Timothy Richard Tebow.
